Contoh Past Continuous Tense

Jadi, past continuous tense paling sering digunakan untuk tindakan yang terjadi pada suatu waktu di masa lalu.

Misalnya, ketika Anda ingin berbicara tentang suatu tindakan yang terjadi selama periode waktu di masa lalu.

Jika pada kondisi seperti itu, maka Anda menggunakan bentuk contoh past continuous tense.

Lihatlah contoh – contoh contoh past continuous tense berikut ini:

• At this time last week I was lying on the beach in Goa.
• My mother was working in the garden so she didn’t hear the telephone when I called her yesterday.
• I was watching TV when she called.
• What were you doing at 8 o’clock yesterday?

Past continuous tense sangat sering digunakan dengan masa lalu yang sederhana untuk mengatakan bahwa sesuatu terjadi di tengah sesuatu yang lain.

Dalam masing-masing contoh berikut, peristiwa tunggal (simple past) terjadi di tengah aksi yang lebih panjang (past continuous).

Perhatikan contoh past continuous tense berikut ini:

• You phoned while I was having a bath.
• When I got home yesterday, a cat was sitting on the roof.
• It started to rain just as we were getting ready to have our picnic.
• The boy was standing on the table when the principal came into the room.
